Strong Willed Woman

They can’t kill my Spirit

Not fire

Nor jail cell

They will not break me

They’ll have to kill me

                        first

I will not give in

I must fight

I am strong

I have passion

They cannot take my Soul

            because they have none

            I am full

            They are void

My Spirit transfers to canvas

It’s my worth

The canvas may burn

But my Spirit still survives

I am alive

I AM ALIVE

Written by Jeannette Tossounian in her solitary confinement cell, punishment for fighting for equal rights at Vanier Centre for Women in Milton Ontario on November 4, 2012.
